D.S.W.Z. Broach (Delft Student Competitive Sailing association Broach) has been founded on the 28th of August in 2002 with the goal to promote and facilitate sailing competitions at the highest level. Quickly, a lot of students supported this plan and Broach gained 150 members in a short amount of time.
The first few years were focussed on buying three J22’s, which with the help of the TU Delft was made possible in 2004 and resulted in the purchase of the NED 1230 and the NED 1231. In 2005 the fleet was expanded with the NED 1365. That same year the first “Slag om Delft” was sailed, a match race in the centre of Delft. Also, in that same year three teams participated in the World Championship for the J22 in Medemblik, in which our teams achieved good results. In 2006 the fleet was expanded with the first Dart 18, which was made available by the class organisation. In 2008 the second Dart 18 follows and the NED 1230 is replaced by the NED 1514. In 2009 two lasers are added and the J22 fleet is moved from the Heliushaven in Hellevoetsluis to the Braassemermeer. In 2010 the NED 1231 is sold, after which the NED 1455 is purchased. The J22 fleet of Broach has not been changed since. So, to this day the NED 1365, the NED 1455 and the NED 1514 are still proudly used.
At the end of 2011 the first Dart18 is returned to the class organisation. In November of 2012 the fleet is expanded with a spectacular F18. In 2014 a second Dart18 is again added to the fleet. At the end of 2017 the F18 is sold and one Dart18 is returned due to the lack of interest of members for these boats.
The association has grown to an accomplished association in a short amount of time with training programmes, competitive sailing and even the possibility for campaign teams to achieve good results. Additionally, a lot of additional activities besides sailing are organised, often in relation to water sports.
Since a few years Broach is in possession of two SB20’s and two RS500’s. The SB20 is an open keelboat, the competition class of this boat is becoming bigger and more competitive. In 2022 two campaign teams participated in the World Championship for the SB20. Also, multiple Broach teams participated in the World Championship for the RS500 in 2022.
